Thousands Lost Electricity in South-East Queensland and Victorian Regions Following Powerful Weather Systems

Approximately 25,000 residences in southeastern Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on Monday morning after intense storm systems impacted the state, bringing powerful gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Substantial Ice Stones and Widespread Impact

Residents reported giant hailstones as large as 7 centimeters in some areas. Meteorological experts verified that multiple regions across the state had been affected by significant hail.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair power throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams working to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Weather Woes

Simultaneously, around 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also faced energy failures after the metropolitan area saw its most precipitation in 18 months.

Emergency response teams handled over five hundred emergency reports across the region, mostly for property damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

At the height on yesterday, over 28k energy customers in the state were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Moist weather were predicted to continue along large portions of eastern Queensland this week as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

The following day was predicted as the most rainy day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential anticipated across various areas of both areas.

Health Warning

Public health experts alerted that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
